Taormina is one of the most important international tourist centres in the Sicilian region,
Known for its natural landscape, marine beauty and historical monuments.
It has been one of the main tourist destinations in Europe since the 19th century.
It is situated on a hill suspended between rocks and the sea, overlooking a terrace of Mount Tauro, in a unique setting of natural beauty, on the southern slopes of the Peloritani mountains of the Ionian Riviera with Etna in the background.
Taormina is also known thanks to the many cultural events, such as Taormina Arte, for the concerts of the Greek Theatre and for this reason there is a tourist season that lasts all year round with peaks in the warm months and that welcomes both luxury clients and mass tourism.
In 2017, the city hosted the G7 international summit, bringing even more visibility thanks to the presence of heads of state in its narrow streets and in the Greek theatre.
Before or after a day in Taormina you can stop in Aci Castello or Aci Trezza for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Just 10 minutes by car from Catania you can visit the two villages that overlook the Ionian coast.
Aci Castello is dedicated to the Norman Castle that stands on the promontory, once detached from the land by an arm of the sea, and that was covered by lava stones during the eruption of 1169.
Today there is a museum where centuries ago there was a castle and an outpost and where the knights who brought back the relics of Saint Agatha from Constantinople on 17th August 1126 rested, while in Aci Trezza you can be enchanted by its splendid promenade full of clubs, restaurants, fishing boats and by the vision of the mythical stacks, the boulders that were thrown by Polyphemus blinded by Ulysses, as told in the Odyssey.
