The myths and legends that see our Etna as the protagonist are really many, the most famous is that of Hephaestus who, in order to take refuge from the constant mockery of his ugliness, made his forge inside Etna to Typhaeus, a giant trapped by Zeus under Sicily for having challenged him and where the giant's head is still under Mount Etna where he still spits flames.
Etna is also the home of present day characters as the permanent home of Queen Elizabeth I who, after making a pact with the devil, her soul would be locked inside the volcano. Together with her there would be King Arthur and Empedocles, a philosopher who threw himself into the crater of the volcano to study its eruptive activity.
